QUESTION N°01
What is the Queen Garnet?
Developed in Queensland using non-GMO traditional breeding methods, the Queen Garnet is a PBR protected cultivar of blood plum. It has been hailed as a “superfood” due to its antioxidant, and more specifically its anthocyanin, content.
QUESTION N°02
What is the difference between the Queen Garnet and other plum varieties?
The Queen Garnet is a unique variety. This variety is darker, sweeter and has a firmer texture than many other plums. It's colour is somewhat indicative of its nutrient content. With a longer hanging time on the tree, the Queen Garnet is able to continue to increase its antioxidant content.
QUESTION N°03
Is the Queen Garnet genetically modified?
No. The Queen Garnet was a result of cross-breeding (the transferring of pollen from one plant to another) in 1997. Genetic modification involves the transferring of a gene from one plant to another.
QUESTION N°04
What is anthocyanin?
Anthocyanin is an antioxidant found in many naturally dark coloured fruits, such as blackcurrants, blueberries and raspberries. It’s the pigment that gives the Queen Garnet its very dark purple flesh and skin.
